Frequently Asked Questions

  • Somatic coaching is a form of coaching that focuses on the  connection between the body and the mind. The term "somatic"  comes from the Greek word soma, meaning body. In somatic coaching, the coach helps clients become more aware of their physical sensations, movements, posture, and overall body awareness to support personal growth, emotional well-being, and  behavior change. The idea is that the body holds important information about a person's experiences, emotions, and patterns  of thought, and by tuning into the body's signals, individuals can gain insights and make lasting transformations.

In a somatic coaching session, the coach may guide clients through exercises that involve:

    1. Body Awareness: Helping the client tune into sensations, tension, or discomfort in their body. This can include noticing physical reactions to emotions like anxiety, fear, or joy.

    2. Breathing Techniques: Breathing exercises to help regulate the  nervous system and bring the client into a more grounded or present state.

    3. Movement: Sometimes incorporating specific movements or  postures to explore how the body expresses emotions or blocks.  This might include things like stretching, guided physical  exercises, or even dance.

    4. Mind-Body Connection: Exploring how certain thoughts or beliefs manifest in the body, and using that awareness to shift mindset, behavior, or emotional patterns.

    5. Emotional Release: Working with the body to release held tension or emotional energy, which can help reduce stress, anxiety, or trauma responses.

    Benefits of somatic coaching:

    • Increased self-awareness and understanding of one's own patterns and responses.

    • Enhanced emotional regulation and stress management skills.

    • Improved physical and mental well-being.

    • Greater resilience and adaptability to change.

    • Enhanced creativity and problem-solving abilities.

    • Deeper connection to oneself and others.

Somatic coaching is a holistic process that can support the emotional, mental, physical and spiritual dimensions of a person, helping  them feel more balanced, empowered, and aligned with their goals and intentions.

  • ACC is a designation of the International Coaching Federation or ICF. It stands for Associate Certified Coach. This is a credential  that shows that the coach has completed a course of training that holds the highest ethical and professional standards. When you engage in a coaching agreement with an ICF coach, you are also provided with a governing body that offers a complaint process should you feel mistreated by the coach or coaching relationship.

  • The timeline for seeing change in a coaching agreement depends  on several factors, including the goals you've set, the depth of the work, and how actively you engage in the process. In general,  coaching is a gradual process that involves both short-term and  long-term changes.

Initially, as in the first few weeks, you may begin to see changes in your self-awareness, such as increased clarity toward your goals and behaviors. You may also notice subtle shifts in mindset and perspective. Or new ways of handling stress and changes in your emotional responses to situations.

During the first few months, as you apply the insights and strategies from your coaching sessions, you may begin to notice more significant behavioral changes. You may feel more resilient in the face of adversity, with greater self-confidence or improved problem-solving skills. You might begin to notice more subtle changes in how you experience emotions and physical sensations. For example, you might feel more grounded, present, or aware of how your body responds to stress or success.

Long-term changes over time may have you experiencing deeper and more lasting transformations in your mindset, behavior, and emotional well-being. By this point, you may have made significant progress toward your coaching goals, whether they are related to career, relationships, well-being, or personal growth.

While change in coaching can start happening in the first few sessions, lasting and significant transformation often takes time. Coaches typically work with clients over a series of months, as deep shifts usually require consistent reflection, action, and support. Setting realistic expectations, communicating openly with your coach, and being patient with yourself are key to staying motivated and achieving sustainable results.
